Desiree Thaniel(She/Her) was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. She is an artist, muralist, and activist. She knew she wanted to be an artist since elementary and discovered her love for painting in middle school. After some time in college, she continued her community engagement work and pursued her painting career.
Determined to celebrate all Black people, her work is motivated by her experience as a Black Woman. Desiree's work is used as a tool for liberation to express herself documenting her spiritual and personal growth. She aims to combat societal pressures of anti-Blackness through her artwork and way of life. While in that documentation, extending self love and self grace. Her work is a reminder that her story is worth telling in hopes to remind others that their story is important too.
She depicts Black women through vibrant colors, shapes, and meaningful imagery. Some works originate from Bible verses to emphasize it's significance and influence today. The emotional and spiritual awareness in her work allows honest communication of what it's like to be and express ideas like she never has before. Desiree aspires to invite viewers to study her work and pay attention to detail.
